What is Cultural Imperialism?
In the past, many countries participated in imperialism in order to have more influence and power. Countries such as Germany, Russia, France, and England fought to become the most influential. They went into countries which were less powerful, such as India or China and they exploited them for their own benefits. Even before the United States became a country, they were one of Britain's colonies. Nowadays imperialism does not exist in this sense. However, there are some parts of imperialism in the modern day which still exist.
Cultural imperialism is the act in which developed countries exert their national identity to other countries in a way to become more powerful. Cultural Imperialism is different from globalization in its motivation. Globalization is about improving the quality of life for both countries through trade and exchange of ideas. Cultural imperialism is about influencing other countries in unequal ways and forcing people to share their world view.
